Jung in Ireland Faculty

BediAshok Bedi, M.D., Jungian Analyst, and Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, is Clinical Professor in Psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin and faculty member at the Jung Institute of Chicago. Trained in India and Great Britain, Dr. Bedi lectures and leads programs for both physicians as well as the Jungian community, with particular emphasis on the emerging frontiers of Spirituality and Healing. Some of his many publications include “Accidents and Synchronicity: Messages From the Soul;” Path to the Soul, and Retire Your Family Karma.

Jean Shinoda Bolen, M.D.Jean Shinoda Bolen, M.D., is an internationally known Jungian Analyst who draws from spiritual, feminist, Jungian, medical and personal wellsprings of experience. She feels a soulful connection to Ireland and has led pilgrimages there. Psychiatrist and clinical professor at the University of California Medical Center, San Francisco, her publications include The Tao of Psychology; Gods in Everyman; Crossing to Avalon; Close to the Bone; The Millionth Circle, Goddesses in Older Women; Crones Don’t Whine and Urgent Message From Mother: Gather the Women, Save the World.

Maureen Concannon, Ph.D.Maureen Concannon, Ph.D., is a psychologist educated in the U.S. and at University College and Trinity College, Dublin, where she has lived for over fifty years. She is a registered member of the Psychological Association of Ireland and the American Psychological Association. Dr. Concannon has a private practice in Dublin and has taught courses in Jungian psychology at University College. Her publications include two histories of Irish clans; a history and psychology of the Sheela na Gig: The Sacred Whore, and “Sheela Cards: A Tool for Transformation.”

Mark Patrick HedermanMark Patrick Hederman, a frequent guest on Irish National Television, has been a monk of Glenstal Abbey in Ireland for the last 40 years. A former headmaster of the abbey’s school, he has also taught philosophy and literature in Africa, the U.S. and Europe. A founding editor of the “Journal of Irish Studies,” Mr. Hederman has spent the first years of the new century wandering the world in search of the Holy Spirit, allowing inspiration and coincidence to lead him. Among his many publications are Walkabout: Life as Holy Spirit; The Haunted Inkwell; Tarot: Talisman or Taboo?, and Kissing the Dark.

Donald Kalsched Ph.D.Donald Kalsched Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist and Jungian Analyst with the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts. He is also a senior training analyst at the Westchester Institute for Training in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy in Bedford Hills, N.Y. His popular book The Inner World of Trauma: Archetypal Defenses of the Personal Spirit (Routledge, 1996) is in its 5th printing. Currently he lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he is at work on a new book: Trauma and the Soul: Spiritual Aspects of Psychoanalytic Work.

Aryeh Maidenbaum, Ph.D.Aryeh Maidenbaum, Ph.D., is a Jungian Analyst and Director of the N.Y. Center for Jungian Studies. Among his publications are “Psychological Types, Job Change and Personal Growth;” “The Search for Spirit in Jungian Psychology;” “Sounds of Silence,” and Jung and the Shadow of Anti-Semitism. Dr. Maidenbaum was on the faculty of NYU for over eighteen years and is a contributing author to Current Theories of Psychoanalysis, Robert Langs, ed.

Diana Rubin, L.C.S.W.Diana Rubin, L.C.S.W., is co-Director of the N.Y. Center for Jungian Studies. Ms. Rubin was a staff psychotherapist at the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health’s Institute for the Performing Artist from 1992-1998. Currently, she is in private practice in New York City and New Paltz, New York, leads workshops and seminars on creativity and Mid-Life issues, and specializes in working with creative and performing artists in both individual and group therapy.

Robin van Loben Sels, Ph.D.Robin van Loben Sels, Ph.D., is a Jungian Analyst in private practice in Katonah, N.Y. and Albuquerque, New Mexico. She spends her summers in Trinity East, Newfoundland. Former co-editor of “Quadrant,” Dr. van Loben Sels’ publications include a collection of her poetry entitled “Wanting a Country for This Weather and Other Poems;” “When a Body Meets a Body,” and A Dream in the World: Poetics of Soul in Two Women, Modern and Medieval. Her most recent poetry appears in the Journal of Religion and Health and Quadrant.

Nóirín Ní Riain, Ph.D.Nóirín Ní Riain, Ph.D., is an internationally acclaimed Irish singer who has performed worldwide. A theologian and musicologist, she was awarded the first doctorate in theology from the University of Limerick. Her thesis subject was “Towards a Theology of Listening” for which she coined a new word ‘Theosony’—from Gr. Theos (God) and Latin sonans (sounding). She is currently writing a book on the subject to be published shortly. The Irish National television station (RTE) has recently completed a major documentary on her life and work. Author of books, articles and CDs, she has entertained visiting diplomats on numerous occasions.

Michael Gibbons
, Michael Gibbons, one of Ireland’s most respected archeologists, is highly acclaimed for his on-going fieldwork in Connemara— one of the most important archaeological areas in Ireland. A popular presenter on archaeology throughout Ireland, he has lectured worldwide, including Oxford, Cambridge and the National Geographic Society. Author of over twenty five articles and Reports, he is a Member of The Instititute of Irish Archaeologists, The Croagh Patrick Archaeological Research Team and the Heritage Council of Ireland.

The New York Center for Jungian Studies organizes, plans and produces conferences, seminars and events, based on the teachings of Carl Jung (CG Jung). Our Jungian seminars and conferences are held worldwide, including the following countries and cities: United States of America, New York, Rhinebeck, Dublin, Killarney, Kilkenny, Ireland, Israel. Our Jung on the Hudson Summer Seminar Series is held annually during the summer months. Our Annual Jung in Ireland event is held in Ireland every spring.

Aryeh Maidenbaum, Ph.D., is a former faculty member of NYU where, for many years, he taught courses on Jungian psychology. From 1982-1993 he was the Executive Director of the C.G. Jung Foundation of New York. A graduate of the Jung Institute of Zurich, he is a contributing author to Current Theories of Psychoanalysis (Robert Langs, ed.) and has written and co-authored several books and articles including “The Search for Spirit in Jungian Psychology,” “Psychological Type, Job Change and Personal Growth,” and "Lingering Shadows: Jungian, Freudians and anti-Semitism." His latest book, Jung and the Shadow of Anti-Semitism, is a collection of essays he has edited on this subject.
